Turning Wheels for Kids a Huge Success!!!
Wow, what a great day!!! Amazing to see so many people out helping to pull this off. The TWFK folks did a great job and all seemed to go smoothly. What a great thing to be apart of.
TWW and the Fox folks kicked some serious arse. Between the two groups, we may have built 100 bikes. And we did most of the more challenging 24" and 26" wheeled bikes. The Fox guys rocked - unbelievable how quickly they assembled bikes. The did more than our group with probably 1/2 the crew. Nicely done.
So the 1,000 bike goal was easily reached and we could've done more. Most of us missed out on the free lunch due to the teenagers taking more than one sandwich, but that was cool as we all trotted down to the local taqueria to have a big ol' burrito. Plus we had the restaurant pretty much all to ourselves so we could keep the schmack rollin'.
Some photos to come, but in the meantime, here are some fun quotes:
"You're not helping my reputation." - Frankie when we "volunteered" him to do the bike build contest with the Pro Lacrosse team cheerleaders.
"I just lay there." - Jeni on... well, something about a bed.
"Does anyone have a bandage?" - Lloyd after cutting himself within the first minute of arriving there.
"Mo and Isaias should be here any minute." - Rookie Boy on the impending arrival of Mo and Isaias who are normally late - and in this case a no show.
"You're worse than me!" - Jeni on my oh so clean schmack.
"Who likes to wake up so early on a Saturday?!" - Dawn on the start time - of course she showed up later... :)
"Do not put that on the blog!" - several people - I'll be nice... this time muwahahahahahaaa!!!
"The cables are all routed to one side. Mike's aren't. Who did that? You put the handlebars on." - Loren to Esther already learning how to pass the blame to his significant other (Loren actually put the handlebars on).
"Maybe she's not all that." - Me to Loren referring to Esther and HER installation of the handlebars.
"Should I toe in the brakes?" - Ester working on a bike.
"Yes, bigger usually is better." - Dawn talking about something, can't remember exactly.
"Everything that Mike says has double meaning." - Robert on I guess my habit of double entendre. Not sure what he's talking about.
"Let's go eat. I'm starving. The Donger need food!" - Kyle at the lunch break. Okay, maybe he didn't say the Donger part.
"You can Photoshop that?" - Schlachter to me about some super basic pshop job. Like duh.
While not a quote, Schlachter's inch worm style one-armed pushups were pretty comical.
Probably the only disappointment of the day was not getting a back rub from PF (who for some reason didn't show). But I did try to get one from the Cameron Diazesque cutie - she even said she was a certified massage therapist... daggonit, no luck there either. :(
Thanks again to everyone for their help. Should be a great holidays for 1,000 kids!!! Just think about that... :)
