Downieville Predictions

Okay, the day of reckoning is nearly here. Schmack talk started when registration opened in like April. But now it is time to put up or shut up. Here are the Top 10 predictions for TWW at Downieville:

1) Polka Dot Jersey (fastest time to Packer saddle): Who else in our group but Isaias. He's the fastest Cat 5 I know.

2) Il Falco Award (fastest downhiller): after all the schmack talk between skinny boy Scott, notso skinny boy Frank, and garage trainer me, Kyle will beat us all with his Expert level fitness and crazy handling skills. Bastage.

3) Mountain Man Award (best combined time of XC & DH) - Frankie-baby won it last year, but clearly he doesn't have the same form as last year. I have no idea how fit Jaeill is (heck*, have never met him), so I'm going to say he won't win it either. What do you know? That leaves me as the only one left man enough to do both... I win by default.

4) Biggest Whiner Award - do we even need to answer this? Of course Mo, she's already whining about having to race Sport.

5) Best Battle of Old Fast Guys - Mike U. vs. Jeff H. Hopefully Mike U. will show up. Even after a week off for vacation prior to the race, I'd put my money on Mike with those crazy bike handling skills.

6) White Jersey (Best Young Rider) - not that young actually, but his first time racing at Downieville. David G. will hold his own very nicely.

7) Big Weenie Award - Ken J. for talking schmack about the DH and then not even doing it.

8) Most Tubes Needed for a Bike Race Award - again, a no brainer with new guy Ty. I hope I just didn't hex myself...

9) No Mistaking Him for Sloping Schoulder Schlachter - Allan in his sleeveless jersey muscling his way up to Packer Saddle on his SS (unless he rents some funky geared bike - Allan, do you still know how to ride a geared bike?!)

10) Just One More Snooze Award - Matt C. will be on time to start his race. But just barely.

Like I said on the list...if Ty can learn how to climb on the dirt, then he might be able to snatch the Polka dot jeresy off my back.

My personal challenge will be to beat my time to the top last year, which was about under an 1hr or maybe 1 minute over 1hr. I seem to remember that Romolo Forcino (semi-pro) did it in like 56 minutes.

My fitness is no where near what it was last year, but we'll see!

ok, its time for me to do a little smack talkin'- real smack talking too.

kyle and i went up to downieville this weekend to preride the course-
hey, there's an idea! and we're checking in with the peeps at yuba
outfitters, when i notice a familiar face. its ariel lindsey from
maverick- a long time riding buddy from when i lived in boulder. oh,
yeah, ariel had the fasterst time on the cross country last year and
he beat everyone to packer saddle in the pros. and he had never ridden it.

anyway, kyle and i do a little shuttle run and ride the downhill. the
first half i'm not so smooth, but no flats. more than i can say for
kyle. we finish in reasonable time anyway. and the second half i am
    cruising.

afterwards we meet up with ariel and abby (women's all mountian champ
from last year and downhill champ) and we make plans to ride the cross
country on sunday. morning comes and we roll up to the start at 9:00
in the maverick van. at 9:20 we're off and ariel sets a torrid pace to
last real climb and guess who holds his wheel the whole way? not kyle.
course i almost puked, but whatever. he's F*%@in' fast! then we haul
ass to the bottom and there are two flats- Abby (that's right, the pro
female mountain biker with her 2.35s and 130 lbs) gets two of them
trying to keep up with kyle and i (ariel stayed up top to do trail
work- payment for free hotel on race day). and guess who doesn't have
a flat- me. oh, and we are HAuling ass. anyway, i'm just saying- i
won't have a flat and i can climb. not some short skeggs climbs, but
long real climbs like downieville. if mike didn't jinx me, and this
cold i jsut came down with doesnt' screw me i'll have the fastest time
up and a very respectable time down. no flats here- i got new tubeless
tires, i got stans, and i know the course. i'll wager a bet that i
have the fastest cross country time if anyway wants?? winner gets a
BLT from the general store (they rock!)

    Ty

Sorry Jaeill, as I'm getting up in the years my memory is fading. See you up there! Come on, do the XC - not many people do both and therefore you can say you did and be the man among your riding buddies...

Well now that all that fat is gone from your body it appears that way. Time to mix in the HGH (or maybe lift some weights during the off season - Shaney will dig the broad shoulders and it should be beneficial to your DH'ing too)
