Green Green with envy?
Big ups to our friends at Clif Bar for being a big sponsor in this race, their emissions neutral or something like that effort, and for their goofy Green Green Jersey spots. Sure seems like something TWW would try to pull off...
Actually kinda reminds me of the good ol' days when Bob Knight used to ride for our group... except he was covered in hair, not grass...

That's the beauty of the spots - they were so corny that you can't forget them. Think about some ads - slick, polished, lots o' money, and what was the product again? Can't remember but the ad was pretty.

It is not a matter of whether you remember the ad or not… they could have gotten a hot chick (if that was their intension…let's face it, mostly men watch the race, right?). Maybe I should be thankful that the race was even on TV, let alone shown on the same day. But it was for only an hour and most of that was taken by commercials. I just felt that the cliff bar stuff could have been shorter and/or more tastefully done. I was just miffed at the immaturity of the spot and the time it was taking away from the race coverage.

Jeez, the next time someone complains about the limited coverage, think back to the days when the NBA Championships were tape delayed and showed after the local 11pm news. We gotta start somewhere, and for a major network to take a risk on a brand new event should say something.
Guess my maturity level is too low cuz I thought the spots were funny (major corny factor can equal funny). As l. christmas said above, "it takes a lot of balls... to be that cheesey on tv!"

Oh and let's not forget the tour pre-OLN and pre-Lance was a 30 minute quickie recap show. Mix in commercials and you're talking probably 20 mins. of coverage.
As corny as the spots may have been, they helped to pay the bills - something that people often forget about television coverage. It is a business and just like other businesses, they want to make some return on their investment.
Funny cyclists in the U.S. think passionately about their sports but in reality those outside of the cycling world see it as a hobby. Many people think that other than needing to be super fit, you don't need to have any special skills. I mean, once you learn how to ride a bike, you never forget, right?
