Spotted... TWW of yesteryear

Our very own BHam (looking quite dapper BTW), discovers a relic from the past... a TWW sign in Japan from when we had a presence there. We had quite the international following at one point - Japan, some Eastern European country, Fresneck, and so on.

Okay, so it was only two people in Japan and one in that Eastern European country, but that counts, right? We even had a shot of our racer in a Euro mag. I'll try to track that down...

That is not technically a "Wrong Way sign, It's an R11 "Do Not Enter" sign. Some times shown without the words (as seen in the photo).
Often the "Wrong Way" sign (R11A-1 or R11A-2 Caltrans or 5-1a MUTCD) is shown with the "Do Not Enter" sign.

Do not enter, have you entered yet? So you must be going the wrong way. I guess placement of the sign, on the entry to the road, or just a ways down the road will make a difference as to "Wrong Way" or "Do Not Enter". So if you are already going in that direction, versus getting ready to go the wrong way, then sign selection could change.

So technically, I am not sure that TWWSA (TeamWrongWaySignageAuthority) would agree with CALTRANS. It seems all CalTrans can do is put up enormous numbers of Stop Lights, and traffic merge lights that are turned off. They seem to function like some of the Open Space groups? But that is another topic.

Thanks guys - this post will be dying a fast death with all the technical mumbo jumbo.

Now, how about internationally? They don't have a sign that says, "Wrong Way", so does this qualify as both over there?

Actually Caltrans takes a back seat to the MUTCD (Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices). It's now a national standard.

It's the cities that think we need traffic signals every 400'. A certain shamrock logo city comes to mind.

Yeah, bring on the schmoop - that will hopefully save things...

"na/bm" is on blog probation. Watch your comments or you'll be restricted from posting. Remember K.I.S.S. This is the TWW blog, we aren't very sharp.

Oddly enough though I am familiar with the MUTCD since we insure a number of street and road contractors... sorry, strike that last commment, trying to save the blog, not make it worse.
