TWW will have one of the largest contingents there. Come and join us - it will be like a big par-tay. What a great cause. If you've been wanting to do some volunteer work this year (you know you should), here is a great opportunity.
**********************************
Bringing smiles to kids one brand new bike at a time. Last year 452 new bikes went to children in need. This year we are pushing towards 1,000 bikes!!! Let the fun begin.
Finally! We (
www.turningwheelsforkids.org) are getting back to you with our most humble plea…
To all of our eager volunteers regarding our “Bike Build 2006”:
Thank you for being so willing! Thank-you for being so patient!
We have a date: Saturday December 16th.
We have a place: South Hall of the San Jose Convention Center . Here it is:
http://www.sanjose.org/meetings/facilities/southhall.php. It is BIG so we have room for everyone.
We have a start time: 8:00 am.
We don’t have a finish time because we will be there until all 1,000 (more or less) bikes are built. Did you know that 1,000 bikes lined up end to end would be about a mile long?
Has this ever been done? We don’t know!
Here’s the deal: We need you and your family/friends/even enemies to come help us assemble 1,000 new bikes for under-privileged and health challenged kids of Santa Clara County . You can stay for the duration or for less, either way this will be a great day!
They start like this:
And end up like this:
Only more! Lots more!
Here’s what you need to do:
Recruit your helpers: Co-workers, teams, family, whoever and let us know how many will be there. We need skilled and un-skilled volunteers. We can pair up willing learners with a skilled person. There are also other needs besides assembling bikes such as quality inspection, tracking inventory, shuttling bikes, cleaning bikes, filling tires (only 2,000 tires!) loading and unloading trucks, tool support, food distribution, and more. We simply ask that you come eager, happy and willing to serve the youth of our area.
We do ask that minors come with a parent or other responsible adult.
Please see attachment for tool lists and more specific information regarding the actual bike assembly process.
For groups and teams: If you want, please bring a sign or banner identifying your company or group. We want to know who you are and recognize you in our pictures and press. Be prepared to have it free standing as we cannot hang banners on the walls.
Please RSVP with your expected numbers of those who can participate by November 30th.
Just a note: Some groups already have team leaders to save me from having to interface with everyone. If you are part of a listed team, please report to your team leader. Team leaders contact us ASAP with your expected numbers.
If anyone else wants to head up a group, let us know. Otherwise, everyone else contact us at: Buildteam2006@turningwheelsforkids.org
