Praire City

Dirt racing is alive and well on Wed. nights in Sacramento.

Look at the size of those crowds! I know I planned to not race
that much mtb this year but f' it (looks like a roadie course anyway)... and if not, I'm buying and RC helicoptor with a video cam on it.

Is this for real?

Please tell me this post will not jinx us like all my other weather related posts.

Probably appropriate for this blog...

Blonde Kentucky Woman

Two bored casino dealers are waiting at the crap table. A very attractive blonde woman from Kentucky arrived and bet $20,000 on a single roll of the dice.

She said, "I hope y'all don't mind, but I feel much luckier when I'm completely nude."

With that, she stripped from the neck down, rolled the dice and yelled, "Come on, baby, Mama needs new clothes!" As the dice came to a stop she jumped up and down and squealed..."YES! YES! I WON, I WON!"

She hugged each of the dealers and then picked up her winnings and her clothes and quickly departed. The dealers stared at each other dumfounded.

Finally, one of them asked, "What did she roll?" The other answered, "I don't know - I thought you were watching."

Moral: Not all Kentuckians are stupid and not all blondes are dumb, but all men are men.

The Sky is Falling

Someone conveniently didn't get registered for the D-ville DH. Hmm... he was given notice, a challenge was thrown down, and uh, well, he didn't get in?

Heck*, screw the $10,000 reward - how about just an entry into the DH for Mr. Chee Kane? Come on now, use that Fox influence and get in there. You guys are on the sponsor list - certainly you have some pull.

Oh well, that is one down by default. Looks like now I only have to worry about the Schlachter Factor. Ho hum. Old Lady Seery, tell me at least you're in.

Average Woman

There is a discussion going on about average women's sizing on "another" list.

<-- I thought this was the average woman.

Napa Valley Dirt Classic is here!!!

I think I actually might be able to dig up this t-shirt somewhere in the memorabilia box. Dang, that was a long time ago.

As usual, TWW will be in force at the NVDC - this is a classic race with some of the best riding around - suh-weet Return of the Jedi singletrack, whoop de doos on 'roids, and the lovely climb out of the valley. Still has that old school feel too. The folks at PUC do a nice job with this event.

I think the Pros are going to have to start doing two laps - those times are ridiculous. 1:23?!!!

You going to be there?

Coming Soon to a Theater (or Singletrack) Near You...

Shoulda been on the bike tonight but instead was inspired. Dang this computer is a monumental time waster. And I wonder why I can't get into shape. Perhaps a Pshop moratorium is in order until I get some fitness.

Wanted to integrate Kwai Chang Caine into the shot but just couldn't fit him. Oh well, next one perhaps. Or not since Bruce was overlooked for the role...

Downieville Classic Registration Opens tonight at 8pm!!!

You aren't going to miss out on this, are you? Incredible riding - singletrack up the wazoo, baby heads, lung busting climb (wait, that wasn't fun), serious schmack running at the campfire, hangin' out at the river, Nick's BBQ?, and good times.

Don't forget about the TWW Mountain Man (or woman) Challenge - do both the XC and DH and the combined time gets bragging rights (and maybe this year we'll make an official trophy). Frankie-baby won it last year but you can be certain that won't be happening again. I'm having my named engraved on that trophy in advance of the race...

Really honey, I'm just trying to be healthier...

This should help reduce the time necessary to get into shape. 10 minutes of gazing = 30 minutes aerobic activity? So let's see, to get in shape for that 2 hour race, I'll need 40 minutes of gazing. Should be no problem. Thank goodness for sunglasses.

So next time your significant every other catches you "working out", just tell her that you're doing it so you can live longer and therefore spend even more time together. I'll give it a try and let you know how things work out. Stay tuned...

Happy Easter!!!

Back from vaca, all rested up and ready to go. Just over a month to Skyline...

And hopefully we're going to start having some good weather.

New beer sponsor?

Yes the folks at Big Sky Brew are amazing (not to mention their adult beverages are quite tasty - you should try them if you haven't. Beverages and More has their schtuff). But after seeing this we may have to re-consider... just kidding of course. Actually, after sorting the 2006 jerseys and seeing all the XL club cut jerseys, we may need to get a sponsorship with Phat Gut Ale.

No bike but...

I guess the pool will have to do...

Black hole sun

Oh my friggin' god it's the sun!!! I cannot believe how nice it is down here in SLO. Of course I didn't bring my bike... :(

Home cooking

Nothing like some good home cooking to cure the ills of the Otter. Not to mention some blue skies and probably a little golf. Only problem is that I cannot comment on the blogs. Can still mobile blog though while watching some Chinese soap opera... Wish I could understand them because sometimes it appears pretty interesting.

TWW Appreciation Weekend in Downieville 6/3-4

Gotta love Downieville. Must be the suh-weet riding that brings out the best in people. Can't guarantee this again, but you never know. Hopefully we'll be appreciating more than just TWW... groovy baby!

Want to do a fun, kick-ass group mtb event? Join us on June 3/4th for TWW Appreciation Weekend in Downieville, hosted by the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship. We are the first and only club/team that sponsors them, by the way, and in doing so we join the likes of Santa Cruz Bicycles, Fox Racing Shox, WTB, and Sac Brew Company:

Pretty sure this is how it will turn out...

Don't mess with you know who.

(if they know what's good for them)

New Mastercard Commercial

Suh-weet new full boinger frame with custom paint job - $1,500

Suh-weet SRAM X.0 drivetrain & shifters - $400

Electrical tape to secure the disk brake hydraulic cable to the frame - just wrong.

There are some things in life that money can't buy... like a good mechanic. :)

(FYI - they do make these fancy cable guides with a sticky back - you might want to get a couple).

New CX dismount technique

This rider was showing off his newly developed CX dismounting technique. Very effective (except for the part where you're supposed to take the bike with you).

Good fun at the Otter

Man oh man, what a great weekend. It was so good to hang with the homies, meet so many of my blog friends - VB, Olaf, Xbun, Pab, Miss Mary, et al. TWW didn't have our normal huge turnout, but we still represented well. Some nice results too. The course hurt me good but I was happy with my finish. More later...

Fire Good

It is a wee bit cold at camp TWW. But at least there is no rain knock on wood.

TWW at the pasta feed

TWW at the ICCC pasta feed. Yummy.

More mudfest

Not as nice scenery but entertaining nonetheless.

Mudfest

Pro women short track quagmire. Is it wrong to enjoy the carnage? Something about mud covered, super fit women in skinsuits...

It's good to be the king

We have the power. Do not mess with the TWW course marshals.

Somewhere over the rainbow...

There is hope. Oh please, please, please. No whammy, no whammy. Where is Peter's tiki when you need it? Wait, that was bad luck. Strike that.

VB's in the house

Life at the VB tent. Good stuff.

blast from the past

So I was looking at bike parts at the local shop with Mike and I notice a beautiful blonde who suddenly starts waving at us and then she says, “Hello Mike”.

He looked rather taken aback, like he can't place where he knows her from, so Mike asks, "Do you know me?"

To which she replies, "I think you're the father of one of my kids."

Now he starts stammering about never having been unfaithful to his wife, but then pauses and says, "My god, are you the stripper from my bachelor party where I laid on the pool table with all my buddies watching, while your partner whipped me with innertubes and then stuck a Clifshot up my butt?"

"No.........," she said embarrassingly, "I'm your daughter’s math teacher."

Great, just what I need

Mobile blogger... now I can blog while I'm bored in bumper to bumper traffic on the 680. Cool. Better yet, I can blog while I'm on the SOC XC course. Now that would be perty suh-weet, eh? Just need mobile Photoshop so I can put myself ahead of my competition...

Specialized Concept Store to Open In Mountain View

Paul Wassem, formerly the chief executive officer of ConsumerReview.com, MTBR.com and RoadbikeReview.com, has chosen to open a Specialized concept store called Bike Spring in Mountain View, California. Bike Spring will open its doors for business this spring. “I chose to make Bike Spring a Specialized concept store because Specialized delivers world-class quality and selection as well as world-class standards for bicycle retailing, and the retail services team invested significant resources in helping me with business planning, store design and inventory selection,” said Wassem. “But the real icing on the cake is that my store reflects my personality and I retain total control over my business.”Located in downtown Mountain View, Bike Spring is suited to serve the affluent communities of Mountain View, Saratoga, Los Altos Hills and other cycling-centric Bay Area cities. According to Wassem, Mountain View is at the epicenter of professional team and recreational group rides every weekend.

How some of the TWW "boys" keep themselves busy during the inclement weather

Some people aren't complaining about all this rain... it allows them to stay indoors to participate in their "cross" training.

He's not just the President, he's a member...

Okay you can stop sulking now Frankie, get back to blogging.

No joy in Mudville

A recent e-mail:

Racers

I just heard from Berry, who is down in Monterey putting the finishing touches on the Cross Country course.

He suggests riders use toe spikes on their shoes. To quote "Those that have them will be glad they did, and those that don't will wish they had."

Evidently, there are a couple of fire road climbs that will be too slimy to ride up next Sunday, and climbing them on foot today was almost impossible. More rain is forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday, so conditions aren't expected to change.

Lovely.

More details trickle out...

Because this is such a major story in the cycling world, we've had our investigative reporters working 24/7 on this. We were able to track down the location of the proposal through an unnamed source, and fortunately tracked down a French carny who witnessed the event. In turn, he gave us the name of a couple of Japanese tourists who captured the moment on film. After a little sake-it-to-me, we were able obtain the exclusive rights to the photo and are presenting it to the world in its full glory:

We will publish more details as we obtain them.

April Fool's circa 1996

Not going to try to pull off any lame April Fool's joke - too obvious. But way back when I pulled this one off. Funny, I was getting calls and congratulations from a bunch of people (including some bike industry people who were on the newsletter distribution). Pay particular attention to the very last line. I did some highlighting for emphasis - that wasn't done on the original. Funny reading the old newsletters while searching for this - jeez, this was 10 years ago... I need to lay down.

*************************************************************************************
As I had told some of you, I sent in a resume to Mountain Bike Magazine for the position of assistant editor. I didn't think much of anything would become of it, but I sent it anyhow. Well it seems that they were interested in me. Very interested. First I had a phone interview with them. That went well. Then they flew me down to Los Angeles. I met with my mentor, Zapata Espinoza (his voice is much squeakier than I had imagined). He was very cool though. He told me what would be expected of me, editing, writing, riding, etc. It was an easy decision. Effectively, I would be doing what I'm doing for TWW and getting paid for it! Also, I would be reaching a true international market. Wow. And the best thing of all - I will be able to stay here in Northern California (thanks to computers, I will only have to travel to L.A. once per month for meetings).

So with great sadness, effective April 1, 1996, I will be resigning as President of Team Wrong Way. With this new position, it would be impossible to put as much time and effort into TWW that is necessary. If you're interested in taking over as President, please call me. TWW has come too far at this point to let die. It's been a great learning experience for me and definitely was a huge step in me getting this position. Through this entire experience, I learned one very important thing - A Person's Reputation Is Legitimized Fittingly Only On Luck Stupid!
